64話 - Daylily swinging on Mt. Jinjan

hi Sunrise * 日安太麻里,Taimali daylily

Although it’s the second time within one month to accompany friends to watch daylily on Mt. Jinjan in Taimali, it’s never been too much to enjoy the beauty of daylily. Daylilies were planted on slopes on high mountains. Therefore, I needed to watch my steps carefully while taking closer shots of daylily flowers on those slopes especially when it had been raining for several days. Although the weather was hot and I would prefer to wear slippers, it was the right choice to wear sneakers but not slippers. I felt safer to step down and up especially when there were no solid wooden stairs.

When the mass amount of flowers was right in front of my eyes, I would need to control myself not to touch or pluck any of those daylily flowers. Beautiful flowers should be shared with other people. Farmers purposely left those daylilies not to be picked for market sales but for tourists to view daylily flowers swinging in the breeze. Since daylilies were planted on high mountains, in the afternoon, it would often be raining or be surrounded by frog. Therefore, I would recommend bringing a small umbrella for protecting skin from getting sunburn in the sunny day while avoiding body from getting wet in the raining day.
Besides viewing and taking photos of daylily, daylily could be made into delicious cuisines. Of course, I would not miss the chance to try different daylily cuisines. Same as the first time, the restaurant, 深山亞都, was crowded with customers during lunch time. This time we even needed to wait for 20 minutes before getting an inside table. Comparing to the last time, we only needed to wait for 5 minutes. I guessed that maybe as closing to the end of the summer vacation, more parents brought their children to outdoor activities. And many people chose Taimali for watching blossomed daylilies.
Here, I would introduce the first daylily cuisine. It was the appetizer, cold dried daylily with the vinegar. It tasted a little sour but a good start for a meal.

The second cuisine was the chicken soup with dried daylily. As remembered from my childhood, we had dried daylily soup rarely. However, as a grownup, I also rarely tasted this kind of soup. Maybe it was because of the price. Each daylily was picked by manpower on slopes. Therefore, the selling price was relatively not cheap. Although I knew that it was nutrition, I couldn’t afford to eat it very often.

The third cuisine was the fried daylily. I ate this at the other restaurant when I visited Mt. Jinjan for the first time. Surprising, it didn’t taste weird but like the Japanese cuisine, fried tempura. Until now, I only had three kinds of daylily cuisines, and I wish that I can try more daylily flower cuisine in the future.

If you have the chance to visit Taimali, besides taking photos of daylily, don’t forget to try different daylily cuisine as well!
